She Added Ambient Lighting To Her Living Room By Laying Down A Decorative Rug

Even in stores like HomeGoods, finding interesting, affordable lighting can be a pain.

Sure, you could grab a few cheap lamps from IKEA and call it a day, but lighting can totally transform a room. For that reason, it’s tempting to splurge.

That’s where the good ol’ internet comes in. There are plenty of great lighting projects floating around out there, but this one by Carmen of Crafty Queens might be the most unique one yet. If you can crochet, you’ll definitely want to check this out.

Carmen drew inspiration from fellow creator Johanna Hyrkäs and crocheted rope lights into a circular rug design.

All you’d need to recreate this light-up rug is some crochet yarn, large hooks, and a string of LED lights.

Crochet in the same pattern until your rug is the desired size (or until you run out of lights).

You’ll have to wait to incorporate the lights until you crochet around the circle a few times, because these ropes typically aren’t flexible enough to start directly in the middle.

By the time you’re done, you’ll have a gorgeous new statement piece for your living room!

Carmen also points out that you can make smaller versions of this using battery-operated rope lights to place on tabletops as unique centerpieces.
